MOLETE/BODE,THE INTERIOR REALM OF IBADAN

I welcome you into the city most endowed with brown roofs, Ibadan. Say that it is one of the largest cities in Africa – i’ll tell you AGAIN that transport round here is only for a mere shilling. (Yes the emphasis is needed!)

One of the major South – Western cities in Nigeria where the rich eyes of culture have never blinked for a second. Books of myth and history have it written in bold, how great the land of Ibadan is.

To write of all the great facts about the unshakable capital city of Oyo state will cost more than we bargain you know?

Let me just take you straight into Molete/Bode, the heart of Ibadan where i call the “Interior Realm.”

This place depicts the real cores of ibadan as a whole.

In a previous post HERE, I was able to expose us to one out of many commercial areas of Ibadan (Mokola), which as well is not far from the Hausa dominated part of the city, Sabo.

Molete in Ibadan can be overtly said as another business district of the city. This broad street is the seat of one of the National Union of Road Transport Workers’ (NURTW) offices where most of the city’s toll revenue is seen to.

A huge market, surrounded by further countless offices, shops and stalls makes up the entirety of Molete.

Undoubtedly, Molete would be counted amongst the top 5 most popular areas in the city of Ibadan.

The fire brigade service point as flanged by not less than two big event centres, long time founded secondary schools and churches are places to note within the proximity.

Now lets walk together into the sister-street of Molete; Bode market. Lets call this place the “herb street” of Ibadan – where till kingdom comes indigenous items cannever go out of stock. Pictures can tell how heavily the sales of earthen pots, beads, herbs and alot more go down there.

I was marvelled at the sight of this place that has refused to be eroded away by mordern time.

My Yoruba communication is on the pro-mode, relating with the locals was smooth.

They gave me a name to each item they sold there and made me understand the strong strand of legacy the business and livelihood means to them and their generations yet unborn.

I could testify to that as i was introduced to different chains of families running business there.

I was told to come in another 3 – 5 decades to see what more larger establishments would have been born out of there.

Molete/Bode is a world that will not stop revolving….it is indeed to me the “interior realm” of Ibadan.

I had fun taking pictures there, big
shoutout to my sister who took me through.

Where else would you like us to go?
Hope you enjoyed it here?

Lets go places!
