SURULERE (LAGOS NIGHTS)

On these hurrying feet are shoes of hope
that have walked dust and mud of SURULERE for better living
Mine was a pair of white plimsoll
that has walked offices seeking a white collar job

Above these heads is a cloud of possibilities
that shines the sun of strength
and pours the rain of assurance
under which i was drenched
for i know victory is near

In these eyes i see glands of thirst
for wealth and comfort from distress
In my mind is a pond of patience
waiting to be rippled by drops of success (SURULERE)
for i labour in my day
to reap my bounty before night

On these palms are prints of questions
for when this gloom of struggle will stir into light
I wipe off my sweat but with a smile
happy that with my two hands
I shall bear my yeilds
of trusting and waiting on the glorious day (SURULERE)

On this street of SURULERE are survivors
returning home after a hell of a day…..

PS – You dont want to hear my story on this day at SURULERE. Let me just leave it this way i painted it.

It just hurts how these days patience is seen as not being smart or ambitious enough.

I write this for everyone including my yellow pawpaw self, tussling it out there on the street of Lagos.

Patience is a virtue
Positive vibes is an asset
Dont give up. NO!
