ROCK AND ROLL AT EPE FISH MARKET

I say it all the time that life barely prepares us anymore, we just rock and roll like I did on the day I explored the whole of Epe Fish Market. This takes me back to my first creative directing work of a skit I authoured for Kraks Tv. The shoot did not come out fine so it did not fly.

Guess what? If you know me well you will know what I’m about to say. “I did not stop!!!” I moved on to to the next one because I see no limitation my world. My sophomore creative directing for #AraByLadayoBodunrin was epic! Then my third, then my fourth, moma I am a star!!!

Has anyone thought about how some decisons we make by accident, haste or circumstance turn out to be for some spectacular events in the future? I turned down a 9-5 job offer (not Kraks Tv) after one insane month of trial/internship only to sign up for a new adventure in no time.

I lived the freelance life for the better part of last year and it was filled with different adventures and testimonies. 9-5 won’t let me have as much fun again. Commitments! *sighs*

I kicked off my creative directing duties for The Moments Ideal Concepts at the Epe Fish Market (Oluwo Market). It was one of those cozy mornings I could have curled under the duvet with bae if any exists. Rather, I chose to explore the marinas of Epe and it was quite an experience.

We (crew of Moments Ideal Concepts) knew our way from Ibeju Lekki to the entrance of Epe town, it only took us to ask from people and we were advised to let a bike lead us.

We hadn’t even parked before these two women sweetly hurried to us, we plainly told them our intentions of exploring their world through our cameras. They agreed to take us as far as we wanted after which we would patronise them. Smooth deal isn’t it?

By that we became very comfortable and chatted excitingly in Yoruba as we proceeded. Of course the rest of the people envied us.

They took us through different stands in the market where different sea creatures were being sold. We saw different breeds of fishes they did not mind telling us each names one after the other.

The best sight was the marina where the people transport their goods to the other side. Just when we were settling in for the shoot, it started to rain but our wonderful tour guides ensured that we were safe under one of their huts there.

In our adventure, I can’t forget a certain man who lamented bitterly about “how people like us would come to take pictures, publish their works without any form of credits and worse still they sell the same books to their children.” This was communicated in Yoruba so I felt his discomfort. It took the rest of the crew and other indigenes who already fell in love with us to convice the man of our good intentions.

I got so pressed than I could bear, I needed to pee so badly but guess what? One of our sweet women found one of their bearable bathrooms for me with abundance of water to rinse off.

Mehn! I gave her a hug on the spot, that was too sweet. The women even encouraged us to wait a while for the rain for us to enjoy the view of the water side very well. I was in awe all through, I couldn’t stop taking selfies with them.

The kids were camera friendly too, they served us different poses and asked to see their pictures each time. They told me their names and smiled sheepishly at me when I teased them.

We got so comfortable we proposed to go on a cruise for some minutes. I had so much adrenaline was rushing within me, I threw my hands in the air for some more pictures.

The overall best part of our adventure at the Epe Fish Market was that, nobody asked us for a dime for taking pictures as the case could have been. We fulfilled our part of the deal as we bided them farewell in all smiles.
