At the fresh start of this blog series, I told you I officially started living in Lagos during my NYSC year not to mention my days of back and forth.
This post is about one of my days of back and forth. I remember a popular slogan that was constantly sung to me; “Eko ni won pebi” which means this is Lagos not the other side where I came from. Exposure and crime rate here is higher and different from other places.

I was told to be careful but apparently I wasn’t. On this crazy day, I boarded a yellow cab to take me to Agege where some family friends were having a get together. It was a wet day I enjoyed how the lightening winked and the breeze blared. I also loved the exciting sound of water splashing by motor cars under the bridge.
I sat in the front seat with the window rolled down while I was grinning at my Blackberry Z30 device. It was an interesting chat that got me carried away like crazy till my phone was snatched right in my face. OMG!!!

The guy was swift and calculative as such that the taxi moved the following second he grabbed my phone and he disappeared. It was too late to scream, it was too late to have kept my phone, it was too late to be careful. Every other thing was too late to do.
Thank God I had a small Nokia phone to my rescue. Eko ni won pebi! The slogan flashed its reality in my eyes. I learnt in the hard way and swore to always keep my phone well. That proved futile when my small phone was slid out of my Nysc Khaki two years later in a bus.

The only difference that day was that I clenched on to my smart phone. Henceforth, I was no longer a party to pressing my phone or making calls in public transports as I have witnessed more cases of phone theft attempt on other people in public transports too.
