#REFORMFORALL: THE REAL LIFE MOVIE OF 2020

It feels like a turbulent movement on the face of the earth with its impact felt in all nations of the world. We kicked off the year with beautiful promises as usual which mostly came from us to us and not from the universe. We longed for so many changes in the new decade that we got carried away not knowing how the changes would be birthed. The newness we thirsted for was shimmery coated from the fairyland of magic, all the high hopes we nurtured with fragility shattered right before our eyes and demanded with immediate effect to be rebuilt.

Australia Bush Fire was the first offspring of rampaging events in the year 2020 during which up to one billion animals died in the fires. Cities were thrown in a race for their lives as they evacuated over 10 million acres of burnt land. This coming prior to subsequent alarming events all over the world did not make its impact less intense.

Jakarta Indonesia Flood is an eternal reminder of the year 2020 while the death of Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman, and my beloved insta-sister, PhummynDeps rather promised to leave a dent in our memory.

The mother of all mishaps which we’ve had to live with and build a new normal from was the novel Corona Virus. This was the giant feet of pandemic stamped on the whole world. No nation, I say no nation escaped this one!!

This takes me back to the paranoia I experienced during the lockdown period, the swing of depression it came with, and not to forget personal happenings going on with each and everybody. Finding a balance between both worlds and stuffing our mental health in the middle of it all was the toughest task assigned to us by mother earth.

2020 abruptly became the year when the whole world was reminded how much “Black Lives Matter.” I wish it was as less forceful as I put it but bro! it costed lives to put that out to the world. The history of this movement is not the one to be eroded with time no matter how much advancement follows. It will stick deep in generations to come that Black Lives is not a death race game for some white supremacists to derive pleasure from.

While all these were going on in the global space, more anomalies in human nature were personally revealed to me. I was made to realize that not everybody well-clad in a shirt and jeans is mentally fit. The shift I told you about in the previous episode of this post HERE came with even more unsettling, creepy, and unspeakable events. Contrary to the former when I could drift to a saner plane, I stayed right where I was to repel what didn’t sit down well with me. There was clearly no escaping this time and up till now, I am still challenging the unfit.

The things I have learned in the short space of time going forward would be to:

Always Envisage the unreasonable ones.

– Handle situations as though they were happening ‘around’ me and not ‘to’ me because it will pass.

Try with all my might not to be overwhelmed by present events.

– Discern the importance of the benefit of doubts.

– Desist from seeking closure but clarity.

Speak forcefully but peacefully in unjust situations.

The most fatal stride in 2020 with the loudest resonating footsteps for us all to recuperate from was the #EndSARS protest which led to the memory-gnashing #LekkiMassacre on the 20th of October. This post angrily does not indulge anyone who is deluded about this event. So, if you know deep down that a part of you justifies the cold-blooded killing of innocent citizens whose only crime was yearning bitterly not to be killed by this arm of the Police force, this is when to bid my website goodbye.

For this once, I am not writing this piece to be opened for debate on the #EndSARS disaster. This is written to communicate with those who yet have empathy in their lives, those who got their drill going in all of this global chaos and still have a huge space of love left in their heart to feel the pains of the other person.

BUT

If somehow you read my essay to this point and you happen not to have as much light that can radiate empathy in your life, let this be your turning point. The reform we are all clamoring for is not limited to the brutal arm of the Police force alone. It is a change that should happen to every one of us.

After all said and done, the real life movie of 2020 is to personally reform me into a kinder human than I have ever been. What about you…?
