ONCE UPON A TIME IN LACAMPAGNE

It was a quiet road trip with Mutiat from our FRCN hostel in Ikeja to the farthest terrains of Ibeju Lekki, Lagos where we learnt the exotic beach was. Quiet trip because i slept my way to the entrance of the place as usual.

I was just yawning to life when the omidan (i think that was the epic name she called it) welcomed us with twisted molds of arms the Yoruba traditional way. As we made our way by foot to the accommodation huts therein, i was seriously battling with the fast breeze not to strip me off my short dress (else my birthday suit wouldnt look too pretty).

9:48pm by the time we got to our hut, i was still partly awake to get the ancient picture. She called it “kodi.” It was a wooden duplex with 3 bed spaces, a bathroom, 2 tv sets and a mini wine bar. A talking drum was the intercom that we would use to call for the waiter. I heard the bed moan for me to lay already, i just rushed a warm shower and called it a night; feeling like one of those princesses in Africa Magic movies. I was aware of nothing else but the powerful feel of being near a large mass of water.

By morning the feeling had transformed into a fairy little mermaid’s courtesy the beach ambience. It was another world entirely as our tour guide took us through. There were other “kodis” (remember what the huts were called) much bigger and detailed than ours. Some had swimming pools and basement bar attatched.

Each point we stopped at had one fascinating feature or the other; winking statues and game points. In no time i figured we could stay longer than a planned night – God bless our purse!

We had breakfast feet sunken into the beach sand. An event i would love for to take course again! The blue water was so much in love with the sky – i remember seeing them kiss. The beautiful palm trees bore witness.

SUNRISE AT THE BEACH

The black bikini adoring my fair skin was eager to be embraced by the sun (speaking more for myself than the lifeless bikini) It was an irresistible affair with the sand as we walked round the beach resort barefooted.

The rippling lake seduced me too much to drop by but i remembered i could be aquaphobic (my dumb excuse for not knowing how to swim).

SUNSET AT LACAMPAGNE

Hunger tagged its way along with the sunset and a flush of immense reality had me to drag my feet back in. That wasnt meant to be a sad tale but obviously being at the beach for two nights was just for Mutiat’s birthday getaway from the real Lagos life. Intense traffic, angry bus conductors, stentchy sweat sticking passengers and all that….

GOODBYE TO HIGH TIDE

By the next morning when we stepped out to spend our money finish for another breakfast on the beach, the roaring sound of the water spelt a capital NO! The beach wasnt in any romantic mood. The tides were so high it could pull down the palm trees.
